Well, it is, right? Isn't it? Well, yes and no.

I used to be firmly in the "real estate is local" school... in fact, before the NAR thought it was cool. But, as the NAR has shifted positions, I felt the need to re-examine MY position. I don't like it when I agree with the NAR too much.

There are a couple of stories in the last few days that have hit the same sour note.  And, if you are selling your home (with or without representation), you need to be aware of this situation.

Loan fraud is still rearing its ugly head.  Speaking at the Mortgage Brokers Association fraud conference:

Merle D. Sharick, vice president of sales for MARI, stated that Suspicious Activity Reports received by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network from federally regulated banks jumped 139 percent between 2006 and 2007. The jump in fraud will spell record losses for lenders, easily topping $1 billion, says the report. 

Georgia ranked 6th in mortgage fraud last year.

I started by explaining in Everybody put your heads down on your desk… how we got to this ugly spot in the road where we see the paths of:

  • Government intervention in loans

or

  • A rush of foreclosures

In this installment, I’m going to outline the case for why it is the wrong thing for the government to do. There are reasons that range from moral to financial to precedents. Remember, that this isn’t an easy decision, and regardless of the path, people are going to be hurt. However, as my father was fond of saying, doing the right thing can hurt, but that doesn’t mean it should be abandoned.
